New York state will mail out inflation refund checks of up to $400 to more than 8 million New Yorkers beginning in October, including 1.25 million Long Islanders. The State’s Department of Taxation and Finance’s website says the one-time payments are designed to “provide relief to New Yorkers who have paid increased sales taxes due to inflation.” The refunds were approved as part of this year’s state budget plan.
